Catriona Gray was crowned Miss Universe 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand on Monday (Manila time) giving the Philippines its fourth crown from the beauty pageant.

Gray is among the top favorites this year. She also made a lot of noise with her slow motion twirl during the preliminary swimsuit and evening gown competition.

A lot of Pinoys flew to Bangkok to support her as evident in the loud cheer from the crowd everytime she is on stage.

A new process was introduced this year in choosing the top 20. The girls were grouped into three based on their continents – Africa and Asia Pacific, Europe, and The Americas. Five girls from each group were chosen to enter the top 20, plus five wildcards.

Miss Philippines Catriona Gray was the second to be called from Africa and Asia Pacific, receiving loud cheers from the crowd.

After the top 20, a new round was again introduced – the girls’ opening statement. The round aims to enable the contestants to let the judges and the audience know a little more about them.

Miss South Africa was named 1st runner-up, while Miss Venezuela was 2nd runner-up.
