I finally found the time to watch Sakristan on YouTube last night. The BL series was written and directed by Darryl Yap. It had its finale episode last Sunday, making its run a total of eight episodes (released weekly) of more or less twenty minutes each.

Sakristan had John Henry Villanueva (as Christian) and Clifford Pusing (as Zachary) in the lead. I haven’t seen them in any project before so I didn’t know what to expect.

One face was familiar (and entertaining), though, as I’ve seen her videos a number of times on Facebook. Loren MariƱas as Penelope was fun to watch. She even delivered her lines the same way she did in her monologues on her online videos. The bad words, however, were a little hard on the ears.

Clifford as Zach was full of innocence (and sexy, too!). Through his acting, I saw his character as a privileged kid who had all the material things he wanted offered to him, that’s why when he finally felt he liked a guy, he acted on it and wasn’t afraid.

Remember that scene at Ma’am Olives Cafe?

Bakit kasi ako pa mauuna? Alam mo na ‘yon! Sure ako gan’to ka din sa ‘kin. Baka mas ka pa.

-Zachary Vigo, Sakristan Ep3

But if I should name a best actor in this web series, I would easily drop the name of Xavier Reyes who played the role of Wolfgang. He delivered his lines like a pro. He didn’t shout unnecessarily, and I liked how his voice delivered the right emotions.

My best actress, meanwhile, was Roanna Mercado as Ma’am Pining, the lesbian teacher. That bilo-bilo scene was memorable enough that I think I would never look at bilo-bilo the same way again. She was also able to portray her character in a way that we wouldn’t remind us of her Vincentiments videos.

The finale left me hoping for another season. I think there would be more chances for Christian and Zachary to fall in love in that setup that was revealed in the end.

P.S.
The OST was something I’d listen to over and over again.
