A brand new teaser for Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story has been released, airing during the 2021 Academy Awards on Sunday. The movie stars Ansel Elgort as Tony and Rachel Zegler as Maria. From 20th Century Studios, The Walt Disney Company will release the movie on December 10, 2021 (U.S. theaters).
West Side Story is an adaptation of the 1957 musical of the same title. It was directly inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
The story explores the forbidden love and the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds.
Tony, a former member of the Jets and best friend of the gang’s leader (Riff), falls in love with Maria, the sister of Bernardo, who is also the leader of the Sharks.
The famous song Somewhere is from the musical. It is also the background music of the new teaser, which you can watch below.
