Zephanie Dimaranan of Biñan, Laguna was named the first-ever winner of Idol Philippines, after getting the highest combined (judges and public votes) scores of 100%.
Zephanie, 16, beat Lucas Garcia who got 70.2%, and Lance Busa who scored 41.89% as revealed during the show’s finale on Sunday (July 28).
As the winner, she received a brand new house and lot, a trip for four to Thailand, a recording contract, and two million pesos.
And what could be in her first album? Of course, her first original song, Pangarap Kong Pangarap Mo, written for her by Jonathan Manalo for the top three.
You may have seen Zephanie before her Idol stint. She was on The Voice Kids a few years back and It’s Showtime‘s Tawag ng Tanghalan just last year.
Now we know why she didn’t win in those competitions. She’s destined for Idol PH.
Her journey may also become an inspiration to us. That no matter how many times you fail, perseverance would eventually pay off.
Personally, though, I was kinda rooting for Lance who sang Morissette Amon’s Akin Ka Na Lang as his first song in the finale. The arrangement, however, was a little tricky. Not that I didn’t trust Lance’s capabilities, it’s just that his version of that same song for Stages suited him better.
Compare the two versions:
I’m sure Lance’s name will also become very popular soon, just like Zephanie’s.
